Staying true to his sleek aesthetic, Frank Tell’s Resort 2010 collection plays on the bold shoulder theme that carried into Fall with angular and modern silhouettes. Evidence of his minimalist approach is in the color scheme – strictly black and white, structured shoulders and geometric bodices. But minimal does not mean monotonous—this collection boasts edgy, ultramodern details with leather, zippers and lace.
Frank Tell can be found at Satine in Los Angeles and Susan in San Francisco.

Jenni Kayne has a genius method for interpreting menswear inspired pieces into feminine forms. For Resort 2010 Kayne offers up her southern California roots with laid-back basics, pops of neon green and sheer, flowing fabrics essential for tropical getaways. Missing from the collection was any sign of Kayne’s signature long feminine dresses and skirts instead the focus was on edgy separates that are more fitting for the time.
Jenni Kayne can be found at Satine, Confederacy and Feature in Los Angeles, Gretta Luxe in Boston, Curve in NYC and more stores here.

It is a slight challenge to select only a few favorite looks from Preen’s resort 2010 collection with innovative pairings of texture, shimmery fabrics and silk. The duo, Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton, made an enthusiastic return after a slightly disappointing fall ‘09 presentation that was nearly-impossible to wear in real life. With a focus on their modified ‘Power’ bandage dress that is guaranteed to sell out in no time at all, Preen’s presentation was a refreshing standout for the week.
Preen can be found at Seven New York and Arcade in Los Angeles.

Alexander Wang took a few steps away from the dark, edgy downtown genre that he is known for, in his resort collection. His last collection presented for Fall 2009 was almost entirely black so it wasn’t a complex endeavor to soften things up for resort 2010. Wang put his spin on classic pieces as he stayed true to his downtown aesthetic assuring that his girls will follow his lead for a walk down the preppy side for resort.
